Orient, Ground, Breathe: Short Grounding Meditation

This short 10min practice is designed to support you when overwhelmed, stressed, anxious or disconnected. Land back into the earth, your body, and the person moment.

Orienting helps your body to consciously take in the visual information about where you are, helping your nervous system to be responsive to the environment you are actually in. For example, if you are in a calm space, your body may be more able to settle into a calmer place, knowing that your environment is safe.

Grounding supports us in feeling into the physical support that is beneath us—the earth is already supporting you right now (unless you’re on an airplane), and you can feel into the stability of that support.

Consciously breathing can help you orient to the present moment, and reconnect with the sensations in your body. Typically, your breath will begin to slow down, bringing soothing support to your nervous system and giving you access to more of yourself.

Try this practice when you’re needing to recenter and reconnect with yourself—notice how you feel before and after.
