Listening Deeply: Trauma-informed Yin Yoga & Journalling for the New Moon
The new moon is a fresh start, a new beginning. It is a time of planting seeds and intentions that we will water over the next month. We dedicate time, energy and resources to the blossoming of our intention. As the moon develops towards fullness over this new moon, your seeds will flower and come to fruition.
Stilling the waves of the mind
This practice is designed to support you in turning inward so that you can hear the voice of your own intuition, quietly guiding you this way or that. I weave restorative yin yoga asana, meditation, pranayama breath practices and journalling so that you can set your intention for this moon cycle. Always trauma-informed, with various options provided so you can meet your body where it is.
Setting up your nest: you may want to wear comfortable clothing, set out a mat or a carpet, bring a journal/paper and pen, any yoga props you have, pillows and blankets, and an eye covering (a rolled up towel works well).
Doorways to your intention
After your practice, you may write, reflect or contemplate any of these questions:
What is beginning for me?
What will sustain and nourish me this month?
What has been calling you?
What is it time for now?
You may sum up your intention like this: I’m planting the seeds of [the new beginning]. I water these seeds by [the sustenance and nourishment you need].
As you go through the month, you can dedicate any available time, energy, attention and resources to your beautiful garden.
Remember: this is not a life overhaul. I recommend picking something specific that you need more of (or less of) at this particular season in your life. We get to start all over again on the next new moon.
